Katowice's most compelling attractions are rooted in its industrial past and its reinvention as a cultural city. The Silesian Museum is the obvious centrepiece, but the city also rewards walking — the modernist architecture in the city centre is genuinely unusual, and the Spodek arena is worth seeing up close even if there is no event on. Allow a full day for the Silesian Park and its museums in neighbouring Chorzów.
