When to Go

The best months are May to September, when the Holy Cross Mountains are fully accessible, the days are long, and the open-air concerts in the Kadzielnia amphitheatre and on the cathedral square run weekly. Summer temperatures sit comfortably in the low to mid-20s Celsius and rarely become uncomfortable.

Winter is cold but workable — daytime temperatures around freezing, occasional snow heavy enough for cross-country skiing in the surrounding forests. The Christmas market on Sienkiewicza in December is small but warm-hearted.

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are perhaps the best times for serious hiking, with cool air and dry trails. The famous Kielce Memorial to Miles Davis jazz festival runs in late November, drawing musicians from across Europe.
