Kołobrzeg eats well on fish and Polish home cooking. The seasonal restaurants along the seafront and around the marina serve fresh Baltic cod, herring, and flatfish, often smoked or pan-fried with potatoes and dill. The old town has a quieter scene of Polish-style restaurants and a handful of more ambitious places.
Restauracja Tradycyjna, on ul. Towarowa, is a long-running favourite for the classics — pierogi, żurek, breaded pork cutlet — done well and without fuss. Pod Winogronami, on the old market square, occupies a vaulted cellar and does a more polished menu with regional touches. For an upmarket evening, look at the dining rooms of the sanatorium hotels along the seafront — several have surprisingly good kitchens that are open to non-guests.
A walk along the marina at lunchtime turns up several open-front fish bars frying the morning's catch. They are not subtle, but for a portion of crispy plaice with chips and pickled cucumbers they are exactly right.
