Spa Park (Park Uzdrowiskowy) and Brine Springs

Long landscaped park between the old town and the sea, full of spa hotels and the brine pavilion

The Spa Park is the long, landscaped green strip that runs between the old town and the seafront, lined with sanatorium hotels where visitors come for two- or three-week courses of brine baths, peat wraps, and inhalations. The 19th-century pijalnia wód (pump room) in the centre of the park still dispenses local brine for drinking — bring a small bottle and try it; it is potent enough to be sobering.

A walk through the park from west to east, perhaps continuing along the promenade past the pier and lighthouse, is the classic Kołobrzeg afternoon when you are not on the beach. The park's flower beds, shaded benches, and small bandstand are all part of the same fin-de-siècle resort logic that built the town's modern reputation.

A story
Kołobrzeg's salt has been worth fighting over since at least the tenth century — the medieval town's wealth was largely built on it. The same brine springs that drove the medieval saltworks now feed the spa industry, with thousands of patients booked into multi-week treatments each year.
