Lublin has a good cafe and restaurant scene driven by its large student population. The old town market square has the obvious tourist-facing places; better value and more local atmosphere is found in the streets around the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) and along Krakowskie Przedmieście. Polish cuisine dominates — pierogi, żurek (sour rye soup), bigos — and there are a number of places playing on the Jewish heritage of the city with dishes from the old Ashkenazi repertoire.
