Majdanek State Museum preserves the grounds and structures of the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp at Lublin. Barracks, guard towers, gas chambers, crematoria, and memorial spaces make it one of the most direct and difficult Holocaust sites accessible from a major Polish city.
The visit is sobering and should not be rushed. Its proximity to Lublin makes the contrast especially stark: a site of mass murder sits within reach of ordinary urban life, which is part of what makes it so powerful.
