Lublin's stare miasto (old town) sits on a low hill, compact and almost entirely pedestrianised. The main market square, Rynek, is lined with colourful Renaissance and Baroque townhouses — many rebuilt after wartime damage, but authentically styled. Street cafes occupy the square from spring through autumn.
The lanes around the Rynek are good for wandering: you will find Gothic vaults, medieval cellars repurposed as bars and restaurants, the old Dominican church, and the Tribunał Koronny (Crown Tribunal), the former court of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth where cases from the whole kingdom were heard on appeal. The old town is small enough to cover thoroughly on foot in a couple of hours.
