Things to Do

Mragowo sits between two lakes — Czos and Juno — in the heart of the Masurian Lake District, and the water defines what there is to do here. Sailing, kayaking, swimming, and cycling through the surrounding forests are the primary activities for the families and summer tourists who fill the town in July and August. The town itself is modest, a small Polish resort that offers access to the lake system rather than sights of its own.

The wider region has more to offer than the town. The Great Masurian Kayak Trail (Wielka Pętla Mazurska) is a marked waterway route through 18 interconnected lakes covering over 100 kilometres; sections of it can be paddled as day trips from Mragowo. Nearby Mikołajki is the more picturesque regional centre, about 18 kilometres away, with a proper tourist infrastructure and access to a larger lake. For something outside the natural scenery, the Wolf's Lair at Gierłoż — Hitler's eastern front headquarters for most of the Second World War — is about 50 kilometres north and makes a sobering half-day excursion.
