The Pomeranian Landowners' Palace — in German the Ständehaus — is one of the surviving Baroque buildings in Szczecin's old city. Built in the 18th century as a meeting place for the Pomeranian nobility, it stands as a reminder of the city's pre-war urban fabric, most of which was destroyed in Allied bombing in 1944 and 1945.
The building's survival makes it more striking by contrast with the rebuilt streets around it. It now serves an institutional function but the facade is intact and well-preserved. Walking past it and toward the castle hill gives a good sense of how the old Stettin was organised, with the civic buildings of the patrician class arranged between the castle and the river.
