Presidential Palace

Neoclassical palace on Krakowskie Przedmieście — residence and official seat of the Polish president

The Presidential Palace is the official residence and seat of the President of Poland, occupying a large Neoclassical building on Krakowskie Przedmieście. Built in the 17th century and rebuilt several times, it served as a palace for magnate families, as the headquarters of various governments, and under the Nazis as Hans Frank's residence before he moved to Kraków. The massive forecourt with its equestrian statue of Prince Józef Poniatowski is one of Warsaw's most recognisable views.

The palace is not open to the public but is worth pausing at on a walk along the Royal Route. The ceremonial changing of the guard takes place here, and protests and celebrations often gather in the forecourt.
