The Royal Palace of Evora preserves the remains of a Gothic-Renaissance palace associated with King Manuel I. It once formed part of the royal presence in Evora, when the city was an important court centre rather than just a museum-piece walled town.
Only fragments survive, but they are worth seeing while moving between the public garden, the Chapel of Bones, and the historic core. Tradition links the palace to Vasco da Gama receiving command of his voyage to India.
