Praia da Rocha itself is the main beach — wide, sandy, and flanked by orange sandstone cliffs and sea stacks. Very busy in July and August; quieter in shoulder months. Bar and sun-lounger hire along the beach. Walking west along the shore leads to Praia do Alemão (calmer, with caves and a lagoon) and Praia do Vau (families, sun beds). Praia de Alvor, further west, has a historic fishing village, water sports, and a salt marsh for birdwatching. Meia Praia, east across the river, is a long calm beach good for children.
