Praia da Rocha is a beach-first destination — the main attraction is the wide, cliff-backed sand at the centre, with the older Fort of Santa Catarina at one end and a string of smaller, quieter coves stretching west. Day trips to the river-mouth town of Portimão, the fishing village of Ferragudo across the Arade, and the dramatic Benagil sea caves further east round out a week's stay.
