Lapa Church

The Lapa Church, formally the Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Lapa, sits on a low rise near the south end of the city and is one of the most distinctive small churches in the region. Originally an 18th-century maritime chapel, it was rebuilt in the 19th century with a tall facade and twin bell towers visible from the seafront.

The church remains in active parish use. The small lighthouse next to it — Farol da Lapa — once helped guide fishermen home and still operates.
