Angra do Heroísmo is served by Aeroporto das Lajes (TER), about 15km east of the city center on the flat coastal plain. SATA Air Açores operates the main scheduled service, with flights from Lisbon and connections between all nine Azorean islands. TAP Air Portugal also flies the Lisbon–Terceira route directly, and there are seasonal connections from other European cities. Flight time from Lisbon is about two hours.
There is no public bus service between the airport and the city; the practical options are taxi (inexpensive — the fixed fare is posted at the taxi rank) or a rental car, which you can pick up at the airport if you're planning to explore the rest of the island. Terceira can also be reached by ferry from other islands in summer — the inter-island ferry service runs from Faial and São Miguel, though crossing times are long and the Atlantic swell can make it an uncomfortable ride. Most visitors fly.
