Bezdin Monastery

A Serbian Orthodox monastery west of Arad, set near the Mures River wetlands.

Bezdin Monastery is a quiet Serbian Orthodox monastery near Munar, west of Arad and close to the Mures River. Founded in the 16th century, it is one of the few surviving Serbian monastic sites in Romania and carries the layered borderland history of the Banat.

The setting is part of the appeal: lowland forest, river country, and a sense of distance from Arad's urban boulevards. Dress and behave as you would at any active monastery, and check locally if you are making a special trip.
