Bran Castle

The centrepiece of any visit to Bran: a fairy-tale castle perched on a 60m limestone outcrop, with medieval fortifications below and Queen Marie's 1920s royal apartments above. The museum covers both the Dracula legend — popular belief aside, there is no historic evidence linking Vlad Tepes to this castle — and the genuine history of the building as a defensive stronghold and later royal residence. The ramparts offer good views over the village and surrounding hills. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, which can be heavy in summer and on Halloween.
