Bucegi Mountains

The Bucegi Mountains rise dramatically above Bran, and trails from the village lead directly into the range. The views back to the castle from the lower slopes are excellent. For even more dramatic scenery, the Piatra Craiului ridge to the southwest is a knife-edge limestone ridge with well-marked trails — one of the finest ridge walks in Romania. Both options suit moderately fit walkers; the higher Bucegi plateau and the full Piatra Craiului traverse are more serious undertakings requiring proper gear.
