Buzău is well served by rail from Bucharest. Trains on the Bucharest–Focșani–Suceava line stop here frequently; the journey from Bucharest Gară de Nord takes around 1 hour 45 minutes. There are also direct services to Brașov, Ploiești, and Suceava. The train station is centrally located and an easy walk from the main hotels and the Crâng park.
Buses from Bucharest (departing Autogara Obor or Autogara Filaret) take roughly the same time and cost less. Maxi-taxis (minibuses) also run frequently on the Bucharest–Buzău corridor and drop passengers at the central bus terminal.
By car from Bucharest, Buzău is about 120 km on the A2/DN2 motorway and national road, a journey of under two hours in normal traffic. The road north through the Carpathian foothills to Brașov (about 130 km) is scenic but slower, especially through Vălenii de Munte.
There is no civilian airport at Buzău. The nearest airports are Henri Coandă International Airport (Bucharest Otopeni) and the smaller Bucharest Băneasa Airport.
