The Vergu-Mănăilă House on Războieni Street is the oldest surviving building in Buzău, a late 18th-century boyar's mansion that has outlasted everything else the town has thrown at it. Built around 1780 for a high-ranking local nobleman, it passed through several owners before being restored in the early 1970s. The house is a historical monument of national interest and now serves as the Ethnography Museum of the Buzău County Museum complex.
Inside, the collection runs to over 4,000 artifacts from the Buzău region: folk costumes, furniture, household objects, tools, and icons spanning the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a modest but well-presented collection that gives a clear sense of rural Wallachian life before industrialisation. The building itself — low-ceilinged, thick-walled, with a generous shaded porch — is as interesting as the exhibits. Admission is combined with the main County Museum if you visit both.
