Lake Vidraru is the dramatic mountain turn in a trip north from Curtea de Arges. The road climbs from the monastery town toward the Transfagarasan, then reaches the high concrete dam and a long reservoir caught between the Fagaras foothills.
The lake is partly an engineering sight and partly a landscape stop. Walk onto the dam for the scale, continue along the water if the road is open, and treat weather seriously: this is already mountain country, not just a quick suburban viewpoint.
