Valea lui Stan Canyon is one of the livelier hikes reachable from Curtea de Arges and the Transfagarasan road. The route follows a narrow gorge of water, rock, ladders, chains, and small waterfalls before looping back through forest, so it feels more like a mild mountain adventure than a stroll.
It is best in dry, settled weather and with footwear that can handle wet rock. The canyon is not technically extreme, but it does require attention, and the reward is a close, physical encounter with the Fagaras foothills rather than another roadside photo stop.
