Deva sits on Romania's main east-west rail corridor, which makes it well connected despite its modest size. Trains run west to Arad and Timișoara (which has an international airport) and east to Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, and Brașov. There is also a north-south line through the Jiu Valley to Petroșani, Craiova, and Bucharest — useful if you are crossing from Wallachia into Transylvania by rail.
By coach, regular domestic services connect Deva to Timișoara, Sebeș, Sibiu, and Cluj-Napoca. Eurolines international coaches pass through on routes toward Hungary and Austria.
By road, Deva is on the E68 highway and is roughly midway between Timișoara (150 km west) and Sibiu (100 km east). Hunedoara, the closest major sight, is about 18 km south on the DN7.
