Micia Roman Site

Quiet Roman legionary ruins with baths and a Mithraic sanctuary

Mintia, a few kilometres west of Deva on the Mureș, was the site of the ancient Roman municipium and military camp known as Micia — a legionary port and one of the most significant Roman settlements in Dacia. The open archaeological site contains the remains of fortifications, baths, and a Mithraic sanctuary, with artefacts spanning the Dacian and Roman periods. It is not heavily developed as a tourist site, which makes it quieter and in some ways more atmospheric than the bigger Roman sites in Romania.
