The Orthodox Church of the Nativity stands in the old centre of Hunedoara, a few minutes' walk from the castle entrance. It is a modest but handsome church with a painted interior typical of Transylvanian Orthodox architecture — gilded iconostasis, dark wooden pews, and frescoes in warm ochre tones. Services are still held regularly, and the church is usually open to respectful visitors outside of service times. It makes a good five-minute stop on the walk between the town centre and the castle.
