The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is one of the main landmarks in central Ploiesti, visible less for ornate excess than for the height and presence of its bell tower. The church dates from the early modern religious life of the city, while the tower gives it a twentieth-century memorial character.
It is a short visit, but worthwhile if you are walking between Ploiesti's civic centre, markets, and museums. The cathedral helps anchor a city that many travellers know only as an oil town or railway stop.
