Postavarul Cable Car

Gondola to the Postavarul summit at 1,799 metres, with panoramic views over Brașov

The Postavarul gondola rises from the resort village up to the Postăvarul peak at 1,799 metres, gaining nearly 800 metres of altitude in around 15 minutes. The summit offers a panoramic view that extends from the rooftops of Brașov below to the full arc of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului ranges to the south and west. On very clear days you can see as far as the Fagaras Mountains.

In summer, the cable car is the easiest way to reach the Postăvarul massif for walking, and the summit has a terrace cafe that makes for a pleasant lunch stop. In winter it serves skiers accessing the upper slopes. Queues build quickly on weekends; arrive early or buy tickets in advance.

A story
The cable car was built in the Communist era as part of the resort's development under Nicolae Ceaușescu, who used Poiana Brașov as a showcase of socialist modernity. The mountain infrastructure — lifts, runs, and the cable car — was constructed to international competition standards, and Poiana hosted FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races during this period.
