In a restored 18th-century noble's house on the main square, Casa Iurca de Călinești is the most polished restaurant in Sighet and the place to try regional Maramureș cooking. The menu runs to sarmale (cabbage rolls with mince and rice), tochitură (pork stew with polenta and a fried egg), trout from the Iza valley, and game from the surrounding hills. The cellar has good Romanian wines, particularly from the Recaș and Murfatlar regions. Reservations advised at weekends.
