Paupers' Cemetery

Paupers' Cemetery is tied to the history of Sighet Prison and the repression of Romania's communist period. Around 50 former Romanian dignitaries, ministers, bishops, academicians, and journalists killed in the prison during the 1950s are believed to be buried here in anonymous graves.

The cemetery is a sober companion stop to the Memorial of the Victims of Communism.
