Chita is not a destination in the usual sense — it is a Trans-Siberian Railway city, visited because the train stops here. That said, it has enough to fill an afternoon: the Decembrists' Church and museum, the regional history museum, and the hill of Titovskaya Sopka with its sweep of views over the steppe. The city's rough, authentic character is itself a kind of attraction for travellers who have grown tired of the sanitised version of Russia available further west.
