Cheboksary has a small international airport with connections to Moscow (Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo) operated primarily by Aeroflot and smaller Russian carriers. Flight time to Moscow is about 90 minutes.
By road and rail, Cheboksary is approximately 650 km east of Moscow. The Trans-Siberian railway does not pass through the city directly — the nearest mainline station is Novocheboksarsk or Kanash, both about 30–40 km away, from which minibuses and taxis connect to the centre. Some travellers arrive via the Volga river cruise routes that stop at Cheboksary between May and October; the river terminal is in the city centre.
The bus connection from Kazan, 150 km to the east, takes about two and a half hours and is a common route for visitors exploring the Middle Volga.
