Eating Out

Irkutsk has a good range of restaurants for a Siberian city. Traditional Russian fare — pelmeny dumplings, borshch, and hearty meat stews — features prominently, but the city also has restaurants serving Buryat and Mongolian dishes, notably buuzy (steamed meat dumplings), which are ubiquitous and delicious. The 130th Quarter district is the most pleasant area to browse for a meal.
