Things to Do

Irkutsk rewards slow exploration. The old centre along the Angara River is compact enough to walk, and the concentration of wooden houses with their carved window-frames and decorative cornices is unlike anywhere else in Siberia. The city also serves as the main jumping-off point for Lake Baikal, but there is more than enough in Irkutsk itself to justify a couple of days.
