Victory Square

Central Kaliningrad square framed by civic buildings, fountains, and the rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

Victory Square is Kaliningrad's main civic square, more useful for understanding the modern Russian city than the old Königsberg one. It is framed by administrative buildings, open paving, fountains, and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, whose golden domes mark the post-Soviet reshaping of the centre.

Do not expect medieval charm here; that is found around the cathedral island and surviving gates. Victory Square is interesting because it shows how Kaliningrad presents itself now: broad, formal, and consciously rebuilt. It is a natural orientation point before walking toward the North Station, the zoo, or the central shopping streets.
