The Spit of Nizhny Novgorod, or Strelka, is the low point of land where the Oka flows into the Volga. It has long been tied to the city's river trade and fairground history, and today it frames views of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, stadium, bridges, and broad water.
It is best visited as part of a riverfront walk rather than in isolation. From here you can read Nizhny Novgorod as a city built on meeting lines: upper and lower town, commerce and church, the Oka and the Volga.
