Getting There

By rail — Samara is a stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway. From Moscow (Kazansky station), the journey takes roughly 14 hours overnight. From Yekaterinburg, around 9 hours. The station is a handsome Soviet-era building at the southern edge of the city centre.

By air — Samara Kurumoch International Airport (KUF) receives flights from Moscow, St Petersburg, and a range of Russian regional cities. The journey into the city centre takes 40–50 minutes by taxi or bus.

By river — Samara has a functioning river port, and cruise ships operating Volga itineraries call here in summer. Boat travel between Samara and other Volga cities (Kazan, Saratov, Volgograd) is possible but slow — the distances are very long.
