The Samara Space Museum is one of the finest of its kind in Russia — which is saying something, given how many Russian cities claim a role in the space programme. Samara's claim is legitimate: the RKTs Progress plant here manufactured the Soyuz rockets that launched virtually every Soviet cosmonaut from Gagarin onwards. The museum is housed beneath a full-scale Soyuz rocket mounted vertically on the roof, and inside covers the design, production, and history of Soviet space exploration with genuine depth.
Highlights include a Soyuz descent module visitors can enter, cosmonaut training equipment, and the full story of how this industrial Volga city became the rocket capital of the Soviet Union in secret. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00.
