The Aleksey Tolstoy Museum is a literary house museum tied to one of Samara's best-known writers. It is not about Leo Tolstoy, which is the first useful distinction to make, but about Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy, the novelist and playwright whose life crossed the late imperial, emigre, and Soviet worlds.
The museum is most rewarding if you have some interest in Russian literature or domestic interiors. Together with Kurlina House and the older streets nearby, it helps show Samara as a merchant and provincial-intellectual city, not only a Volga river port.
