The city centre is walkable — the main sights cluster within a 15-minute radius of Soviets Square. Beyond that, marshrutka minibuses are the workhorse of local transport; they run set routes for a flat fare and stop on request.
Trams and trolleybuses cover the longer cross-town routes. The Ethnographic Museum and Rinpoche Bagsha monastery are both reachable by city bus from the central market. For Ivolginsky Datsan, take a long-distance marshrutka from the bus station; round trips by taxi are a faster but pricier alternative.
Yandex Taxi works in the city and is the easiest way to call a private ride.
