Odigitrievsky Cathedral

The Odigitrievsky Cathedral is Ulan-Ude's oldest stone building, completed in 1785 and one of the finest examples of Siberian Baroque outside Irkutsk. Its layered, almost wedding-cake silhouette of white walls and green roofs stands above the Uda river just below the city centre.

Closed during the Soviet period and badly damaged, it was returned to the Orthodox Church in 1992 and gradually restored. The interior is small but ornate, with reconstructed iconostasis and frescoes. A short walk down from the central square.
