Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant

The Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant (ChTZ) is one of the great industrial monuments of the Soviet era. Founded in 1933, it became one of the largest tractor manufacturers in the world — and during the Second World War, evacuated factories relocated here from across the western USSR, turning Chelyabinsk into "Tankograd" (Tank City), producing T-34 tanks and other armaments at an industrial scale that helped turn the tide of the war.

The plant is still operating, and the associated museum documents its extraordinary history with original machinery, wartime artefacts, and archival photographs. The sheer scale of what was built here — and the speed at which it was built — is astonishing. It is one of the most historically significant industrial sites in Russia outside Moscow and St Petersburg.
