From the open ground around the cable car station and the main piazza, Borgo Maggiore offers clear views west and north across the broad flat plain of Emilia-Romagna. On a clear day — most common in autumn and early spring — you can see as far as Rimini and the Adriatic coast, about 20 km away. The view from the cable car itself, midway up the ascent, is the most dramatic: the car swings out over the hillside with nothing between you and the horizon. For photographs, the lower cable car station platform offers the clearest perspective.
