EXIT Festival

EXIT is held over four nights each July across the bastions and moats of the Petrovaradin Fortress, with twenty-something stages and a line-up that mixes mainstream pop, techno, metal, and reggae. The setting alone — dance floors carved into 18th-century military architecture — is reason to go.

The Dance Arena in the dry moat is the main draw for electronic music fans, with names like Carl Cox and Solomun appearing year after year. Tickets and packages combining festival entry with camping at the dedicated site by the Danube sell out months in advance.

A story
EXIT began in 2000 as a student protest against the Milošević regime — a hundred days of music in Novi Sad's main park in the summer that culminated in Milošević's fall. The first edition the following year moved to the Petrovaradin Fortress, and the festival has stayed political at heart even as it has grown into one of Europe's largest.
