Name of Mary Church

The Name of Mary Catholic Church, often called the cathedral although it isn't officially one, anchors the eastern end of Liberty Square. The current neo-Gothic building dates from 1894 and replaced an older church destroyed in the 1849 fighting. The tiled roof — orange, green, and yellow zigzags in the Hungarian style of Zsolnay tiles — is the most photographed detail.

The interior is plain compared to the exterior, with a quiet vaulted nave and a few good stained-glass windows. Free entry, regular masses, and concerts in summer.
