The old town of Košice is compact and almost entirely walkable. Hlavná ulica runs through the middle of it, and all the major sights are within easy walking distance of each other. The railway station is about 15 minutes on foot from the southern end of Hlavná ulica.
The city has a good tram and bus network for reaching outlying attractions. The airport is served by municipal bus. Taxis are available throughout the city. For destinations in the surrounding region — the Košice Basin, the Slovak Karst, the Tokaj wine area over the Hungarian border — a rental car is useful.
