Košice has an international airport with direct connections to Vienna, Prague, London, and several other European cities; flying in from Western Europe is often the most convenient approach. The airport is about five kilometres from the centre, with a regular bus service.
By train, Košice is connected to Bratislava by a direct intercity service taking about 4 hours. From Budapest (Keleti), the journey takes about 3 to 3.5 hours with a direct train. There are also connections to Vienna via Bratislava. The main railway station (Košice hlavná stanica) is a short walk from the old town. By car from Bratislava, the D1 motorway runs most of the way east; the full journey is about 400 kilometres and takes around four hours.
