New Orthodox Synagogue

The New Orthodox Synagogue was built in 1926-27 and restored in the 2000s. It is still an active synagogue, though Košice's Jewish community is much smaller than it once was.

The most affecting detail is inside: pencil inscriptions from May 1944 were preserved on the walls. They make the building more than a period synagogue and give a direct, human link to the city's wartime history.
