Mining Museum

Kremnica museum preserving the mining history behind one of Slovakia's old coin towns.

Kremnica's Mining Museum helps explain why this small town mattered: gold and silver mining made it one of medieval Hungary's great minting centres. Exhibits and mining remains connect the steep streets and old fortifications to the hard underground work that paid for them.

It is a specialist stop, but in Kremnica the subject is central rather than incidental. Visit it alongside the town castle and mint history, and the whole place reads less like a pretty hill town and more like an old industrial power in miniature.
