Kalvária is a wooded hill south of the city centre with a Calvary chapel at its summit, reachable by a pleasant walk through the woods. The hilltop offers views over the city and across the agricultural plains of southwestern Slovakia, and on a clear day you can pick out the distinctive silhouette of Nitra Castle to the north.
The walk itself is the point as much as the destination — local families use the paths year-round, and in spring the hillside is covered in wildflowers. The Calvary chapel dates from the 18th century and is still occasionally used for religious services. Allow about 45 minutes for the round trip from the edge of the city.
