Boka Waterfall

The Boka waterfall is the highest waterfall in Slovenia, dropping 106 metres from the limestone cliff above the Soča valley. It lies about 4 km south of Bovec on the main road, and the viewpoint walk takes around 40 minutes return from the parking area. In spring the waterfall is immense — fed by snowmelt from the Kanin plateau — and the spray is felt well before the falls come into view.

The path to the viewing platform winds along the cliff edge and is well maintained, though the final section involves some fixed rope climbing. The falls reduce significantly in late summer but remain impressive. The Boka is one of the most rewarding short walks in the Soča valley, and can be combined with swimming in the Soča pools below.

A story
The Boka is the highest waterfall in Slovenia, dropping 106 metres in its first free-fall before continuing down the cliff face. In spring snowmelt it is visible from the main road kilometres away. The path to the viewpoint was cut into the cliff in the 19th century by Austro-Hungarian soldiers building the military road, and sections of it are still original stonework.
